John Hearn, Principal

John has extensive expertise in ancillary benefits, with experience in underwriting and risk analysis, contractual review, implementation, process audits, and enrollment and communication strategies. John served for over ten years with the nation's leader in disability coverage, Unum. While there, he had a variety of roles, including several years as the company's Market Manager in Atlanta, Georgia and Phoenix, Arizona. During his career with Unum, John supported national and regional brokers and consultants in their work with large employers, and worked directly with over 30 Fortune 500 clients. During 2011, John made site visits and performed audit reviews of thirteen leading Absence and Disability vendors. 

Immediately prior to joining TBX, John served for five years as the Managing Director of Univers, a Goldman Sachs Capital Partners Company and the nation's leading benefit communication & engagement firm. John was responsible for Univers' regional P&L, market development and operations integration for many large, complex clients.

John is a graduate of The University of Georgia, where he received a Bachelors degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Risk Management & Insurance. John also completed his EMPAQ (Employer Measures of Productivity, Absence and Quality) certification in 2003.

John recently received the Most Innovative Broker of the Year Award from the Institute for Healthcare Consumerism.  John and his wife, Amy were members of Leadership Georgia’s Class of 2010.  His volunteer work includes serving as Assistant Scout Master for Troop 955 with The Boy Scouts of America, the Board of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, as well as serving on the Finance Committee at Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church where John and his family are members.  John and Amy, are actively involved in the community, serving with Habitat for Humanity, The Georgia Council's Center for an Educated Georgia, and MUST Ministries.

John grew up in Monroe, Georgia with his four siblings, including a twin sister.  He and Amy, a Registered Nurse, now reside in East Cobb with their two daughters, Darden and Christian, and son, Will.  John enjoys spending time with his family and their dog, Bentley, as well as reading, traveling, and hiking.
